France, Britain Warn their Airlines Would Stop Services to Beirut
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةFrance and Britain have hinted that they would stop their carriers from landing in Beirut's Rafik Hariri International Airport for failing to abide by international standards.
The issue has been lately discussed by Speaker Nabih Berri and the French Ambassador. A similar meeting was also held between Interior Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq and the British Ambassador, said As Safir daily on Wednesday.
According to the report, the airport suffers from major problems such as weak inspection of luggage and the failure to implement a plan to equip the facility with more lighting and security cameras.
Interior Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq confirmed to the newspaper that “the airport is suffering from major problems.”
He also confirmed that both Britain and France hinted they would stop their carriers from using the airport.
“This warning is serious but not final,” he said, adding that London and Paris are waiting for action from the Lebanese authorities to resolve the problems.
Al-Mashnouq hailed Speaker Nabih Berri for being the only official who is exerting efforts for the airport to meet the required standards.
Public Works Minister Ghazi Zoaiter also told As Safir that “the security of the airport and the safety of passengers are a red line.”
He said he has prioritized the issue out of his keenness for Lebanon to abide by international agreements and safety rules.
Zoaiter stressed that efforts are exerted to meet all the standards required by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the European Union.
The minister said he will ask the cabinet to approve the required funding to continue with the implementation of planned projects and tackle the flaws at the airport.
The U.N.'s Montreal-based ICAO sets safety standards for international flights. Its audits evaluate countries' ability to oversee their airlines, including how well they conform to those standards.
In 2013, ICAO identified a significant safety concern with respect to Lebanon's ability to properly oversee its air operators under its jurisdiction.

The iranian terrorist party has made beirut airport a hub for its terrorist and illegal activities. The sooner we open an airport in another lebanese area the better. It is shameful to have an airport surrounded by iranians who choose to live in the stone age.
BS random accusations. The airport infrastructure and equipment depends on the CDR (council for development and reconstruction) which is controlled by mustaqbal.
Yet another public institution that was hijacked to private interests by mustaqbal and was severely mismanaged.
wrong as usual. Once the airport is finished construction it falls under the Ministry of works. Stop spreading your propaganda. Every article you have to say something irrelevant and full of misinformation.
hahaha I love it when you say "as usual" when we both know you never - ever - proved anything besides your ability of being in denial of the facts and sources I provided.
Regarding the airport I maintain what I said, any project such as the one mentioned (quote: "failure to implement a plan to equip the facility with more lighting and security cameras") fall under the CDR authority.
"weak inspection of luggage" is more debatable, since it is a combination of ongoing management and enforcement of policies and procedures (Which would fall under the airport authorities) AND a matter of installing new equipment and technologies (which would fall under the CDR)
According to the report, the airport suffers from major problems such as weak inspection of luggage and the failure to implement a plan to equip the facility with more lighting and security cameras.
weak inspection of luggage and and not enough security cameras are not security concerns according to the trolls and are caused by Mostaqbal
Zoaiter stressed that efforts are exerted to meet all the standards required by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the European Union.
Zoiater said he will ask the cabinet to approve the required funding to continue with the implementation of planned projects and tackle the flaws at the airport.
and that is how the troll proves the "CDR which is controlled by Mustaqbal" is responsible for the flaws at the airport.
These are very dangerous reports this terrorist Hezb Ebola unit "8000" and all it's infrastructure embedded in the airport needs to be surgically removed and the culprits prosecuted, this "Zuhair Al Moussawi" (which I suspect is a second generation Lebanese of Iranian origin, which the Hezb Ebola have illegally naturalized along with thousand of others for the sake of being moles for such criminal illicit activities) should be arrested and interrogated. The government should immediately attend to this and scan for such terror units in all other ports of entries to Lebanon be them by air, sea, or land.
The Beirut International Airport should be managed by tendering out to international companies that are experienced in operating a 1st class terminal! I am embarrassed to go to the toilets. The shop attendants are rude, arrogant and lazy. The security is adequate but the customs agents are friendly and professional (especially the female custom agents). The international airport is the face of a nation and Lebanon is embarrassing! Don't get me started with the rude MEA baggage and check in attendants! I can't complain more about the state of the dimly lite, stinking toilets! Tfeh!!
What was the point of my bitching? Oh yeah... That is the main problem in the airport, not the security!
Does anyone remember or even know that the Beirut International Airport use to be the main terminal for the Middle East? Dubai was still a desert... Doha was desert and didn't even have an airport.... The Concord landed in Beirut on its 1st international tour of the world! Beirut was the only stop in Middle East! Those of you who don't know or have forgotten... Lebanon was THE ONLY airport, tourist, banking, liberal and stable country in the Middle East! Now we are a joke and the desert bedoins, who couldn't even read and write, have replaced Lebanon while we live in filth as rubbish piles up, Israel steals our gas and the "Arab" world uses us a refugee camp!
you put a zeaiter as transport minister? to deal with western countries? are we out of our mind? we have tons of highly qualified technicians. Why put someone from clans in such a position?
